Face Off!

This is a test of wills, of might and of sheer brute strength. This is a test featuring 44 of the most powerful men in history based not on their prowess in office but of their (imagined) ability to kick ass.

What we endeavor to feature, through a single elimination tournament, is how each U.S. President, from Washington to Obama, would fare in one-on-one combat. The impetus for this game is simple: Each day, voters are subjected to news stories proclaiming one candidate's strength over another or one politicians' victorious performance. Here, we actually can imagine how that would play out. [View the full bracket here or below.]

Note that each ranking is not based on politics nor historical rankings of "best" Presidents. In choosing both President Obama and President (W.) Bush as #2 seeds, for example, we considered their personal and/or professional actions as strengths. We gave preference to those Presidents who performed bravely in battle as either a solider or commander and we dinged others who did not. We rated highly those we thought would fare well in hand-to-hand battle and rated others we perceived as weak.

You'll notice that Vice President Cheney is on the list. We realize he was never President, but because we needed 44 slots and because Grover Cleveland served two nonconsecutive terms, we were left with just 43 men. To fill that empty spot, we chose whom we considered to be the strongest VP of all time. Cheney did shoot a man, after all. Also, each entry has an accompanying explanation of the person and why we think they deserve their ranking.

Finally, this is complete parody and is meant solely for fun (and educational) purposes. Please don't take this seriously but please do pass this on to your friends, if so inclined.

Round One voting starts now and will continue through next week. Thanks for playing!
